Experiencias Erasmus 2021

20.06.2021

¿A qué esperas? [Hugo Moreno]

[Virginia Pintor]

English Version —

Castelo Branco is a town located in the interior of Portugal. It is a small and quiet town, and although it may be far away from Porto and Lisbon, it has a great variety of nearby places and activities to do. Despite the restrictions and confinement I have spent here due to COVID, I have been able to meet and make friends from other parts of Europe and Portuguese people from my career and other disciplines. One of the best things about ESART (Escola Superior de Castelo Branco) is the great variety of different disciplines that are taught in the same building, such as music, graphic design, interior design, audiovisuals, and many more, which allows you to work and meet people with similar studies to mine.It has been a unique experience and fate managed to give me a break and a change of scenery that I needed so much because of the COVID situation in Spain. Being able to get to know a culture that is more similar to the Spanish one than I thought, but at the same time very characteristic, places and incredible nature, anecdotes, friends, and languages have enriched me more than I could have ever imagined. If you like nature, Castelo Branco is perfect for you, from routes and nature a few minutes away from the city where you can escape from everyday life, to the natural park of Serra da Estrela, pure mountain, with nooks and crannies and places that are almost 2000m high, or the indescribable trails of Orvalho. Porto was one of my favourite destinations without a doubt. We made the trip after the 3-day confinement by car, renting a flat. It is a very international city, with a spectacular diversity of cultures, neighbourhoods and styles. During the 3 days we visited non-stop places such as the Ribera, the Crystal Palace Gardens or the Punte Dom Luis I, and we still had countless places and streets to get lost and enjoy. Definitely, this is a once in a lifetime experience and I encourage you, if you have the opportunity to apply for an Erasmus Scholarship, to get down to work and choose a destination and get to know different places and people from all over Europe. What are you waiting for?

________

After my first 6 months here I can talk a little more in depth about my experience. Despite the exceptional circumstances in which we found ourselves, at the beginning of the course I met many classmates, classes started normally, we had parties and gettogethers…; in relation to my classmates, they helped me at all times and integrated me with the rest of the class. In addition, most of the teachers have been attentive to whether we understood the explanations well and have always lent us a hand when we needed it.

What I regret the most is perhaps not having taken the opportunity to travel and visit more cities in the surrounding area, in fact, when we decided to do so at the beginning of November, they tightened the restrictions and we had to stay here.  Until today, mid- February, they have confined the whole country, closing all kinds of shops, to the point of putting classes online.

I would certainly encourage the rest of the students of the school to choose Castelo Branco as a destination, in terms of studies, since in my experience the IPCB school of arts has many resources and classrooms prepared for the design career and also the teachers who teach the classes are very prepared professionals who help you at all times. In terms of leisure, it is true that Castelo is a small and quiet city, but there is a great university atmosphere that makes the stay more pleasant, although in my case due to the situation I have not been able to live it so intensely.
